Home automation system
Home automation has been around since the World War 1 (1914), in fact, the television remote (a simple home automatic system) was patented in 1893 (Wikipedia, 2009). Since then different home automation systems have evolved with a sharp rise after the Second World War. Home automation is the automatic or semi-autpmatic control and monitoring of household appliances and residential house features. It provided a means for contolling home fatures. Its growth has been through various informal research and designs by technology enthusiasts who want a better way of getting things done at home without much effort on their part. Because it reduces human intervention in the operation of these features, it evolved from one that can automatically do routine chores like switch on and off security lights, to more sophisticated ones that can adjust lighting, put the television channel to favorite station and control doors.
Since home automation is only about the control and monitoring of these features, it is necessary that these features to be controlled and monitored can interpreete the commands sent to them. The home automation system only senses the changes in the conditions of the home and sends the appropriate commands to the system which now interpretes the command and acts accordingly.
For instance an automated door can be a system controlled by the home automation system. The home automation system can activate the door automation, but the door only opens when it is necessary to do so. So, the function of the home automation system is to activate the door automation system, maybe depending the on time of the day, and it is the function of the door automation system to open and close the door. In other words, the home automation system serves as the central controlling unit for all the features of the home.
The successful development of the automated doors, gates, windows, lighting systems in the home automation system was of great importance and brought about conveniences to the households. In their quest for a more efficient home automation system, a means for the control of the curtains was necessary. This led to the design of the automated curtain closer.
